Dear Parents
Firstly, we wish all our Hindu parents a Very Happy Diwali.
As Bishopslea’s Staff and Board of Governors, we are very pleased to inform you of the following initiative:
At Bishopslea we believe that every child has the fundamental right to be judged on their individual merits only and to be given an equal opportunity to achieve their potential. RC
‘In light of that belief we are delighted to announce the new ‘Enhanced Learning Programme’ that will be a part of our core offering with effect from term 2 2016
The Enhanced Learning Programme (ELP) will be distinctive and primarily focused on students who have Dyslexia or ADD/ ADHD and who, although of above average intelligence, will benefit from a more targeted and differentiated lesson delivery.
Students selected for the ELP will follow the same curriculum but will benefit from different teaching techniques, relevant assessment programmes and the increased individual attention that helps pupils overcome some of these barriers to learning.
To make this ELP possible we are in the process of converting part of our hostel into 5 purpose designed classrooms that will each house up to 12 students and 1 dedicated teacher for each of Grades 3-7. This ensures we have the right people in the right place supporting individual children throughout the school.
We are excited by this opportunity to pioneer targeted differentiated learning in our school.’
This will be of enormous benefit to many pupils who are Dyslexic and/or ADD/AHD (Attention Deficit or Attention Deficit and Hyperactive)
Priority will, of course, be given to Bishopslea pupils who qualify for the programme and all parents, especially those whose daughters have been diagnosised with Dyslexia or ADD, or who suspect their daughters may be afflicted, are invited to a talk on the programme to be held in the hall next Wednesday at 12:00pm. Interested non-Bishopslea parents will be invited to a talk the following week.
The Inter-House Gala last Saturday was most exciting and entertaining. Our congratulations go to all our pupils who competed in the gala and to Mrs Nel, Mrs. Rosser, all the officials, recorders, scorers, our PTA and the Grade 5 parents whose contributions all added significantly to the success of the event. Special thanks must go to our Synchronised Swimmers and their coach, Mrs Wanyanya, for their truly beautiful display.
On Wednesday, we were most privileged to have Lauren St John, who is an internationally acclaimed and award winning author of 27 children’s and adult’s books, come to Bishopslea and give a talk to our pupils. Everyone was captivated by her talk and most were surprised to learn that Miss. St John was born and brought up in Zimbabwe and has a connection with Bishopslea as her niece is a pupil. We have copies of all her many children’s books in our library, which are all very popular with our pupils.
Grade 5M returned from their most enjoyable camp to Imire on Wednesday and 5W return today after equally enjoying their camp. By all accounts the highlight of both camps was every pupil having the opportunity to interact with and ride elephants.
This afternoon our ‘B’ Swimming Team will be competing in their Inter-Schools ‘B’ Teams Gala. We wish them every success.
Tomorrow, our ‘A’ Swimming Team will be competing in the EPSA Division 1 Inter-School’s Gala at Les Brown swimming pool. A special highlight of the Gala will be a display by our Synchronised Swimming Team. We wish all our pupils taking part in the gala every success.
The final galas of the year will be held next week. Our A and B teams will be competing in the Ruzawi Invitational Gala and our Infants (ECD, Grade 1 and Grade2) will be holding their annual Infants Gala next Friday. All parents and friends are invited to come and watch our Infant pupils display their swimming abilities.

The PTA is pleased to inform you that $21 562:80 was raised at the Sponsored Walk and Fun Day. Our congratulations go to all for this huge achievement and especially to the Grade 7’s for their special stalls. Congratulations also go our ECD pupils for raising the most sponsorship money.
