Dear Parents
A warm welcome back to all and a special welcome to new pupils and parents.
This term we welcome Mrs Cathy Forkersten who joins us in the hostel as a matron, Miss Pawakwenyewa who joins us as Sports Mistress for the term, Sister Marufu, who has taken over Sick Bay, Mrs Bimha who is taking over Grade 2B for the term whilst Mrs Bock is on maternity leave and Miss Tafirenyika who joins us as a Junior Mistress. We hope they all settle in quickly.
During the holiday the covered gym was dismantled, turned 90 degrees and rebuilt to double its original size. After the success of the installation of the artificial turf in the gym for indoor hockey, it was decided to double the size of the facility to a full size indoor hockey pitch with artificial turf. Once complete we will be able to play matches, and properly introduce our hockey players to the equivalent of astro turf. Plans are also in place to upgrade the whole area around the gym, including the car park, with a sports facility primarily for tennis development. This is a most exciting project that will be unique to a school in Zimbabwe.
Our swimmers hit the ground running on Tuesday as the senior swimmers have been on a afternoon Swimming Camp all week in preparation for the season. We are also competing in the Inter-Schools Wildlife Quiz on Saturday and our Grade 7’s go to Tree of Life for their environmental and leadership camp on Tuesday.
The Grade 7’s have been on their MARS first aid course this Thursday and Friday.
This first week has been Bonds & Tables week for Grades 3 – 6. Bonds and Tables are critically important to maths and this week gives all the pupils a chance to learn and improve in their Bonds & Tables knowledge and speed.
Afternoon Activities begin next week. The afternoon Timetable and Term Calendar are attached. Hostel lunches and Day Boarding also start next week. Please would all parents fill in and return Hostel lunches return slips and please would parents wishing their daughter to stay for Day Boarding fill in and return the Day Boarding return.
I will be attending the CHISZ/ATS Heads Conference from Saturday to Wednesday. Mrs Davidzo Chitengu will be attending from Monday to Wednesday on behalf of the Board of Governors.
Hellenic Academy Open Day
Any Grade 6 parents interested in Form 1 2018 for their daughters are invited to their Open Day on Monday 26th September starting at 8:00am
Chisipite Open Day
Chisipite Senior School will be holding their Open Day for parents interested in Form 1 2018 on Friday 16th September from 10am – 12pm.
