Dear Parents
Yesterday we welcomed back our Abdim Storks on their annual migration from Egypt. The arrival of the storks normally heralds the start of the rains so they are most welcome.
We have had a busy week preparing for the Inter-House Gala, which will be held tomorrow. Details are included below.
Yesterday evening our Marimba Players took part in an Inter-Schools Marimba Concert, which was hosted by Hartmann House. The concert was a great success with our girls playing beautifully.
Next week is a most exciting week for our Grade 5’s, as they will be going to Imire Game Park for their exciting Environmental Camp. Grade 5M go on Monday and return on Wednesday and Grade 5W go on Wednesday and return on Friday. We wish them ‘happy camping’.
Afternoon activities return to the normal timetable next week. The swimming teams will be practising for their EPSA Inter-Schools Gala next Saturday though.
We were very pleased to welcome Mrs. Garvin, an Educational Psychologist, to Bishopslea this week. Mrs Garvin has started a four-week programme with our ECD pupils, called Handwriting Motorway, to prepare the pupils and develop the skills they need to start writing next year when they go to the ‘Big Class’ (Grade 1). The teachers are most impressed with the programme and the benefit to the pupils. Mrs. Garvin will also be available to do assessments of pupils and offer occupational therapy to pupils, which will undertaken here at school in our new facility, but on a private basis. The teachers, as has always been the case, will inform parents if it is felt that an assessment or therapy may be required.
Inter-House Gala
The Inter-House Gala for Grade 3 – 7 will start at 8:30am.
All pupils participating should meet their House Captains at 8:15am on the netball field for warm up. All pupils in Grades 3 – 7 who can swim a length will be participating in at least 2 events. The events list with competitors is posted on the notice board.
Pupils should bring their correct Bishopslea swimming kit, including blue costume, house colour cap, full tracksuit, clean white socks and takkies. They should bring two towels and should be covered in sun block. Drinking water may be brought but not cool drink so as not to attract bees. Please could parents ensure all items are clearly named.
Please note the following:
- Please would parents not go to their children’s tents to talk etc during the gala and please do not send food and drinks to the pupils during the gala.
- The PTA will be selling food and drinks for which we are most grateful. However, please do not take glass into the pool area.
