Dear Parents

Our first week has gone very smoothly with every one settling back into routine very quickly and new pupils settling in well.

Although we had no afternoon activities there has been a hockey clinic and practices as matches start next week.

The Grade 6 classes have certainly hit the ground running as Grade 6H go on their camp to Far and Wide on Sunday, returning next Friday. Grade 6B will then go on Sunday 17th and will return on Friday 22nd in time for the Africa Day weekend.

I will be joining all the other CHISZ Primary Heads today for a two day Conference in Gweru, which should be most interesting and informative.

The hockey fields have been very well prepared and looking very good.  Cutting and retraining the grass from thick and spongy for athletics to thin and fast for hockey and then marking is a huge undertaking, which took three weeks of intensive work using extra labour during the holidays.  It will all be well worth it though.  Our thanks go to Mr Jambanja and his team for preparing the fields.

Great news is that our new Website is up and running.  It has been designed to keep current and prospective parents up to date with information, notices, sport fixtures, newsletters, photos etc. updated and posted daily.  This has taken a long time to get right but is now a useful means of communication rather than just a stagnant site.  The site can be viewed at www.bishopslea.com

As you have already been informed we are very pleased to be able to offer a mornings only bus service from Borrowdale Race Course to school as from Monday.  This will hopefully alleviate many of the problems parents’ face when having to cross-town unnecessarily in the mornings drop their daughters off.  Please refer to the circular sent out on Wednesday for information or contact the office.

The Afternoon Activities Timetable, bus information and return, Term Calendar, hostel lunches and Day Boarding circulars were all forwarded on Wednesday in hard copies via pupils and by email.  If any were not received either find on the Website or contact the office.

Please note that afternoon activities begin on Monday so pupils will need to bring lunch returns and sports kit for the afternoons they stay.

Proof of Payment – School Fees

Could we once again please ask parents to furnish us with copies of bank transfers to enable us to receipt your daughter’s school fees.  This is also required for internal bank transfers as these only reflect with a reference number.

Infants Sports Kit & Boarder Kit

In an effort to improve our uniforms we have designed a new Infants sports kit for ECD, Grade 1 and Grade 2 pupils as the white T-shirts currently used lose their shape very quickly.

The new T Shirts and shorts will be made of the same moisture management material that the Grade3-7 sports kits are made of and will be available from Glen Abby as soon as the order is manufactured.

We have also designed a fleece lined tracksuit bottom and fleece jacket for boarders to wear when not at sports or afternoon activities.  These will only be available to boarders and will not replace the uniform or sports kit.  As soon as they are available, boarder parents will be informed.

PTA Events

The PTA’s annual Golf Day will be held of Friday 3rd July. This event is always a highlight of the year and incredibly well supported. Please note that teams are accepted on a first come first serve basis and that last year there were more teams than Tee off times. Attached are entry forms and Hole and Tee Box sponsorship forms. We are also appealing for prizes for this prestigious event.

The PTA will also be holding a  ‘Movie Night’ on Friday 29th May. More information will forwarded next week.

Yours sincerely
